Performance Psychology at ¹û½´ÊÓÆµ
¹û½´ÊÓÆµ provides a range of services to support the wellbeing and mental health of students. All staff at ¹û½´ÊÓÆµ work in partnership with parents to support the wellbeing and care of our students. A comprehensive pastoral care system for students includes homeroom (and classroom) teachers, Team Leaders and the staff of Performance Psychology. The College also has a broad wellbeing program, GenSTAR, which aims to educate students in age-appropriate issues to maintain optimum wellbeing. For those individual students in need of specific intervention, the Performance Psychology Centre offers supportive counselling, mental health assessment and treatment and educational assessment.
Professional Services
At ¹û½´ÊÓÆµ, the mental health care of our students is supported by our team of psychologists in Performance Psychology. Any student can access the services, which include:
- Supportive confidential counselling
- Mental health assessment
- Mental health treatment
- Referral to external health care providers
Performance Psychology also supports the educational progress of students by working closely with Learning Diversity and providing expert assessment and advice in giftedness, learning difficulties/disabilities and other issues that impact educational success. The team provides:
- Educational assessment
- Cognitive assessment
- Case management and liaison with other professionals
Through the ¹û½´ÊÓÆµ Performance Psychology Centre, students have access to registered Psychologists with specialist training in Educational and Developmental Psychology. Our dedicated team are committed to fostering the wellbeing of every student and believe that a supportive environment is crucial for academic and personal growth.
Performance Psychology is involved in all aspects of wellbeing across the College, including:
- Support College staff to meet the educational and social needs of the students
- Facilitate the GenSTAR wellbeing program
- Provide parent seminars and parenting courses
- Contribute to the development of the College’s policies, procedures and practices
- Consult with the parent community to support their families
- Provide additional support to our boarding students and the boarding community
- Support the College in managing and responding to critical incidents and serious matters concerning the school community
We provide students with:
- Counselling
- Consultation with College staff to support students’ needs
- Educational and cognitive assessments
- Referrals to external support providers and consultation with external support
- Wellbeing
Within the Performance Psychology centre, all Senior School students have access to our wellbeing space. This space is a safe and dedicated environment that students can use during school hours if they require a wellbeing break. The purpose of this space is to support students to apply their coping skills before returning to the classroom.
How to be referred to a College Psychologist
1. Identify
Students can refer themselves via the online referral form on GenConnect
2. Reach Out
Parents, staff and students reach out to their mentor or homeroom teacher and decide on a course of action.
3. Action
Mentor or homeroom teacher addresses concerns or Team Leader may step in and assist
4. Refer
If the matter is not resolved, the Team Leader may discuss referral to the College Psychologists
